Discover the Stunning Calla Lilies Valley on California Highway 1: Your Ultimate Guide

If you’re ever traveling on California Highway 1 in late winter or early spring – make a stop at this place. After a short hike through wildflower fields, you land in a valley filled with thousands of beautiful Calla Lilies growing on the sides of a small creek.

Huge numbers of tall, white calla lilies. The refreshing air from California. Slowly making your way to the valley below. You’re looking at Big Sur, California’s Calla Lily Valley. It’s like a mini-paradise springing to life every year!

Note: if you don’t like 1000s of strangers photobombing your pictures try coming there early as during the day the valley is full of people 🙂

Location-wise, it’s located between Big Sur and the far more popular Carmel-by-the-Sea, however, most people simply consider it part of Big Sur. Some believe the valley is out of the way, however, it can be found on Google Maps. Put “Calla Lily Valley” into your GPS and it will take you there. Warning: This section of the coast (particularly around Bixby Bridge in Big Sur) has very spotty (if any) mobile reception, so be careful to enter this when you have full service.

In order to escape the crowds, it is recommended to visit the valley early on a weekday. Hikers should wear long trousers and stay vigilant since the path is contaminated with poison ivy. Don’t touch any of the plants and keep to the trail’s designated path.
